Fighting Human Trafficking & Rescuing its Victims
We couldn’t just look the other way
Did you know…
If you add up the record annual net income (as of June 2024) of ExxonMobil ($56 billion), Nike ($6 billion), and Walmart ($18 billion)...and tripled that number...you would arrive at the estimated annual profits generated from human trafficking, which is $236 billion.*
If you’ve been on our website for five minutes or so, 50 humans around the globe…typically young girls…have been captured or sold into slavery since you arrived. There are more slaves in the world at this moment than at any other time in history.
If I was alive in the 1800’s, I’d like to believe I’d be an abolitionist, fighting to end slavery. And I’d like to believe that if I was an adult in the 1960s, I would be fighting for civil rights.
Well, this is a civil right. And it is slavery. And it’s happening right under our noses. In the U.S. and around the world. And Wellings Capital is doing something about it.
Wellings Capital is a due diligence partner for our passive real estate investors. Many of our investors choose passive real estate because they don’t have the time or inclination to actively manage real estate or perform due diligence on operators themselves.
We know there are an overwhelming number of investment options out there, and it is hard to know who to trust. Our goal is to find the best real estate opportunities for our investors, and we provide those to our investors through our diversified funds.
We look at modern slavery in a similar way. Many of you know about the horrors of human trafficking. But if you’re like most people, you don’t know how to get involved or who to trust.
Do you join a SWAT team raid to free slaves? That’s not practical for most. Do you donate to someone making an online plea? That may be a good plan. But you may not know where the money really goes. We’ve all heard stories of fraud and waste.
I have been following the movement to fight human trafficking and rescue its victims since 2016. I’ve personally met with Benjamin Nolot, the filmmaker of Nefarious, the film that blew the lid off trafficking for many. (Nolot testified at the United Nations the year after we met.)
Wellings Capital has been on a quest to find non-profit organizations we can trust to donate to and partner with. Organizations who are responsible with their money and who cost effectively fight trafficking and rescue slaves.
AIM - Our Partner in Rescuing Victims and Bringing Justice
We are currently partnering with AIM (Agape International Mission). AIM has had roots in Cambodia since 1989 and started its focus on fighting sex-trafficking in 2005. Their goal is to rescue sex slaves, give them a completely new life, and partner with them as abolitionists to free many more.
AIM is rated 98 out of 100 by Charity Navigator.
Our Wellings Capital team met with AIM at our office in 2021, and we are making a substantial commitment to partner with them in their work.
AIM has a powerful team that locates trafficked girls and partners with the government to set them free. AIM’s teams partner with local law enforcement to conduct raids that put thugs behind bars. These raids free these children and give them back their lives for approximately $1,000 per child.
It is widely known that rescued victims usually go back to the streets. AIM relocates children to safe houses where they are shown love, given clothing and shelter, receive much-needed counseling and community, and are trained to make a living.
Children are lovingly cared for during their two-year average stay, and often join the AIM team either making items for sale or caring for other survivors. As a result, over 90% of AIM’s rescued victims never go back to the streets.
our goal is to give, raise, and direct $5,000,000 to free and care for victims of human trafficking by 2028.
Wellings Capital and the partners of Wellings regularly give to AIM and the effort of fighting human trafficking. We also use our platform to raise awareness and recruit donations/matching gifts from our investors, operating partners, and network.
Wellings Capital has raised and donated over $600,000 to AIM from November 2021 through December 2023.
We want to fight this issue by supporting organizations that not only work on the ground to free victims and care for them but also advocate for justice at the legal and government levels.
If you would like to learn more about AIM or donate directly to AIM now, you can do that here. Be sure to let us know if you donate.
As always, feel free to contact us if you have any questions.
